How to Embrace Pleasure in Every Moment: A High Achiever's Guide to Living Deliciously

You know that feeling when you're so focused on the destination that you forget to enjoy the journey? When your idea of pleasure is "maybe someday when I've achieved X"? Girl, I see you, because I've been there!

Hey gorgeous! Let's talk about pleasure – and no, not in that "save it for the weekend" or "guilty pleasures" kind of way. I'm talking about the kind of pleasure that can transform your entire life, from your morning coffee to your biggest career wins.

I. The Pleasure Paradox for High-Achieving Women

As high achievers, we're masters at getting things done, crushing goals, and making magic happen. But here's the truth: somewhere between the promotions, the perfect mom moments, and the endless to-do lists, we forgot something crucial – pleasure isn't a reward for hard work, it's the fuel that powers it. Yes, you read that right, pleasure powers your life. When you follow the lovely flow of life, the heartbeat of bliss, you can actually start to live a life you don’t need a vacation to escape from.

You know that feeling when you're so focused on the destination that you forget to enjoy the journey? When your idea of pleasure is "maybe someday when I've achieved X"? Girl, I see you, because I've been there!

Why Embracing Pleasure is a Power Move

Here's the game-changing truth: pleasure isn't just about feeling good – it's about accessing your full power as a woman. When you're connected to pleasure, you:

  • Make better decisions

  • Have more energy

  • Attract opportunities effortlessly

  • Lead with authentic power

  • Create from abundance rather than scarcity

II. What’s the True Pleasure?

The Difference Between Numbing and True Pleasure

That mindless Instagram scroll, that extra glass of wine, that late-night online shopping spree? That's not pleasure, Queen. That's numbing.

True pleasure:

  • Energizes rather than depletes

  • Connects you to your body rather than disconnecting

  • Expands time rather than killing it

  • Leaves you feeling more alive, not less

Types of Pleasure (Yes, There Are Many!)

Sensual Pleasure

There’s obviously sexual pleasure, but it doesn’t have to stop in the bedroom. It's also about:

  • The perfect temperature of your morning shower

  • The feel of silk against your skin

  • The aroma of fresh coffee

  • The way sunlight dances through your window

Your senses are your pleasure portals – are you using all of them?

Emotional Pleasure

  • The warmth of genuine connection

  • The joy of belly laughs with friends

  • The satisfaction of speaking your truth

  • The peace of setting aligned boundaries

Intellectual Pleasure

  • The thrill of learning something new

  • The satisfaction of solving a complex problem

  • The excitement of creative ideas flowing

  • The joy of meaningful conversations

Spiritual Pleasure

  • The peace of your morning meditation

  • The awe of connecting with nature

  • The flow state in your work

  • The alignment of living your purpose

Why Pleasure is Essential for Peak Performance

Here's the secret they don't tell you in business school: pleasure isn't the opposite of productivity – it's the foundation of it! When you're operating from a place of pleasure:

  • Your creativity soars

  • Your intuition sharpens

  • Your energy multiplies

  • Your impact magnifies

  • Your problem solving powers are on point

The Science Behind Pleasure and Productivity

This isn't just feel-good fluff – it's neuroscience, baby! When you experience pleasure:

  • Your stress hormones decrease

  • Your brain releases feel-good chemicals

  • Your immune system strengthens

  • Your resilience increases

  • Your decision-making improves

Think about it: have you ever made your best decisions when you were stressed and depleted? Or do they come when you're feeling relaxed, confident, and in flow?

III. Signs You're Blocking Pleasure

There are sneaky ways we high achievers tend to put pleasure on the back burner.

The Achievement Addiction Cycle

You know that high from checking things off your list? That rush when you hit a goal? I see you, productivity queen! But here's the thing – if you're constantly chasing the next achievement high, you might be missing the delicious moments happening right now. Are you:

  • Already planning tomorrow's goals before celebrating today's wins?

  • Feeling antsy when you're not "doing" something?

  • Measuring your worth by your output?

That's not ambition, love – that's achievement addiction, and it's blocking your pleasure potential!

Postponing Joy for "Someday"

"I'll enjoy life when..."

  • The project is finished

  • The kids are older

  • I get the promotion

  • I lose the weight

Sound familiar? Here's your wake-up call: Someday is not a day of the week! Life is happening NOW, and pleasure is available in every single moment.

Unable to Receive Without Guilt

Let's talk about receiving, because girl, this is a big one! Do you:

  • Feel uncomfortable when someone compliments you?

  • Always need to reciprocate immediately?

  • Struggle to accept help?

  • Feel guilty about taking time for self-care?

Your capacity to receive pleasure is directly connected to your capacity for success. Mind-blowing, right?

Constant Doing vs. Being

If your worth is tied to your doing, you're missing out on the pleasure of simply being. You're a human BEING, not a human DOING. Your existence is enough – everything else is bonus!

Pleasure as a Reward Rather Than a Way of Life

"Once I finish this, then I can enjoy myself."

Oh honey, if I had a dollar for every time I heard this! Pleasure isn't dessert – it's the main course. It's not the destination; it's the fuel for the journey.

IV. The Art of Micro-Pleasures

Now for the fun part – let's talk about how to infuse pleasure into every moment, no matter how busy you are.

Training Your Pleasure Sensors

Think of pleasure like a muscle – the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. Start noticing:

  • The perfect temperature of your morning coffee

  • The softness of your favorite sweater

  • The satisfaction of a deep breath

  • The rhythm of your heels clicking on the floor

These aren't just details – they're doorways to pleasure!

Finding Joy in Ordinary Moments

The magic isn't in big occasions – it's finding gratitude in the everyday moments:

  • Making your morning coffee a sacred ritual

  • Turning your commute into a mini-concert

  • Making your workspace a pleasure palace

  • Finding delight in routine tasks

Creating Sensory Rituals

Let's upgrade your daily experiences:

Morning Pleasure Points:

  • Stretch like a cat in sunlight

  • Savor the first sip of water

  • Feel the shower water like it's liquid gold

  • Choose clothes that feel delicious against your skin

Mindful Indulgence Practices

This isn't about going wild – it's about bringing consciousness to pleasure:

  • Eat that chocolate like it's your first time tasting it

  • Feel the sun on your face for 30 seconds

  • Take three conscious breaths between meetings

  • Dance while you're getting dressed

Turning Mundane Tasks into Pleasure Points

Even the most boring tasks can become pleasure portals:

  • Make expense reports a treat with your favorite music

  • Turn email checking into a cozy ritual with tea

  • Transform cleaning into a dance party

  • Make grocery shopping a sensory adventure

Remember: Pleasure doesn't need to be big, expensive, or time-consuming. It's about bringing awareness and appreciation to the moments you're already living.

The secret? Start small. Choose one moment today to truly savor. Notice how it feels. Let the pleasure sink in. Then tomorrow, add another moment. Before you know it, you'll be living in a state of everyday ecstasy!

V. Pleasure Practices for Busy Women

I know now you're thinking: "Sounds great, but who has the time?" I got you! Let's break down how to infuse pleasure into your jam-packed schedule without adding more to your plate.

Morning Pleasure Rituals (Even if You Have 5 Minutes)

Yes, even if you're rushing to get kids to school or catching an early flight!

  • First 30 seconds: Stretch in bed like a goddess awakening

  • While brushing teeth: Give yourself a loving smile (yes, really!)

  • During shower: Make it a sensual experience (hello, favorite scents!)

  • Getting dressed: Touch each fabric mindfully, dress to feel amazing

  • Morning beverage: Sit for just ONE full minute of pure enjoyment

Workday Pleasure Infusions

Your 9-5 deserves to feel divine too. Create a "pleasure corner" on your desk with items that delight your senses – maybe a crystal that catches the light, a photo that makes you smile, or something simply beautiful to touch. Transform the spaces between tasks into mini pleasure retreats. Even in back-to-back meetings, you can take three conscious breaths, roll your shoulders with intention, or simply feel the ground beneath your feet.

Evening Unwinding Ceremonies

Think of your evening as a gentle descent into pleasure. Create a "pleasure bridge" between work and home life – maybe it's a moment of stillness in your car, a luxurious face massage while removing makeup, or turning dinner prep into a sensory adventure. Let your evening routine become your personal spa time, where every action is an opportunity for pleasure.

Weekend Pleasure Amplifiers

When you have more time to play, dive deeper into your pleasure practice. Start your morning with tea in complete silence, letting the warmth and aroma fill your senses. Take pleasure walks where you notice all the beauty around you. Move your body in ways that feel delicious, whether that's dance, yoga, or simply stretching like a cat in the sun. Create pleasure dates with yourself or share conscious connection with loved ones.

Pleasure Walking Meditation

Transform your daily movement into a pleasure practice. Feel every step as if you're caressing the earth, notice the gifts of nature around you, breathe in beauty like it's precious perfume. Let your body move naturally, hips swaying freely (yes, even in your power suit!). This isn't just walking – it's a moving meditation in pleasure.

VI. Take Time to Overcome Pleasure Blocks

Let's tackle those sneaky barriers that keep you from fully embracing pleasure, Queen!

Releasing Guilt Around Pleasure

Get clear on what your beliefs are around pleasure and if you believe that you deserve it (hint: you do). Take the time to really get clear on this, cause if you don't spend the time on this one, it can really end up blocking you.

Time for some real talk:

  • Pleasure isn't selfish – it's necessary

  • You don't need to earn it

  • Your joy benefits everyone around you

  • Pleasure makes you MORE productive, not less

  • Your worth isn't measured by your struggle

Try this mantra: "My pleasure is a gift to the world."

Setting Pleasure Boundaries

Protecting your pleasure is non-negotiable. Learn to say "no" with grace and "yes" with full intention. Schedule pleasure like you schedule meetings – it deserves space in your calendar. Create pleasure non-negotiables and stop apologizing for prioritizing your joy. "Let me check my pleasure calendar" is a perfectly valid response.

Dealing with Others' Judgments

Not everyone will understand your pleasure revolution, and that's okay. Their discomfort isn't your problem. Instead of justifying your choices, share your transformation through example. Surround yourself with pleasure-positive people who celebrate your joy. Be the change – show others what's possible when a woman claims her right to pleasure.

Breaking Free from the "Productivity = Worth" Mindset

Time to rewrite those old stories:

  • Your worth isn't in your output

  • Rest is productive

  • Pleasure enhances performance

  • Joy is your birthright

  • Success without pleasure isn't success

Permission Slips for Pleasure

Consider this your official permission slip to enjoy life NOW, not "someday." To prioritize feeling good, to take up space with your joy, to be "unproductive" sometimes, and to make pleasure your compass. You're not just allowing pleasure – you're claiming it as your divine right.

Quick Pleasure Reset Practice

When you notice yourself blocking pleasure, try this:

  1. Place one hand on your heart

  2. Take three luxurious breaths

  3. Ask: "How could this moment be more pleasurable?"

  4. Make one small adjustment

  5.  Savor the shift

VII. The Ripple Effect of Pleasure

Ladies, here's something mind-blowing: your joy is contagious! When you give yourself permission to live deliciously, you become a walking permission slip for others to do the same. Let's dive into how your pleasure practice creates waves of positive change.

How Your Pleasure Impacts Others

Think about the last time you were around someone who was genuinely lit up from within. Magnetic, wasn't it? That's because when you're connected to your pleasure, you radiate an energy that's impossible to ignore. Your kids notice. Your colleagues notice. Even that barista at your local coffee shop notices. You become living proof that success and joy can coexist beautifully.

Leading from a Place of Joy

Forget the old "tough boss" stereotype. The most influential leaders I work with are those who bring their whole, pleasure-loving selves to the table. When you lead from joy, you create psychologically safer spaces, inspire more creativity, and build teams that actually enjoy showing up. (And yes, productivity follows naturally!)

Teaching Others Through Example

Remember: you don't need to preach about pleasure (unless that's your thing, and if it is, let’s chat!). Simply living it speaks volumes. When your team sees you taking a real lunch break to savor your meal, when your family witnesses you prioritizing your morning ritual, you're showing them what self-respect looks like in action.

Creating a Pleasure-Positive Culture

Imagine a world where "I chose this because it brings me joy" is as valid as "I chose this because it's practical." You're not just changing your life – you're part of a bigger movement of women redefining success on their own terms.

Signs You're Ignoring Your Intuition (& How Reconnect to It)

The cost of ignoring our intuition isn't just missed opportunities or staying in situations that don't serve us for too long (though that's part of it). The real price we pay is disconnection from our divine feminine wisdom, that gorgeous inner knowing that's been guiding women for centuries. In our rush to be logical, practical, and "professional," we've turned down the volume on our most powerful internal advisor.

Let's have a heart-to-heart moment. You know that feeling in your gut that sometimes whispers (or maybe screams) that something isn't quite right? That inner knowing that bubbles up right before you make a decision? Yeah, that's your intuition – your internal GPS, your divine feminine wisdom, your soul's very own group chat sending you messages. And if you're anything like most high-achieving women I know, you've probably gotten really good at hitting the "ignore" button on those messages.

Why This Matters Now More Than Ever

We're living in a world that's constantly telling us to "hustle harder," "be more logical," and "just push through." As a powerhouse woman, you've probably mastered the art of spreadsheets, strategy, and making things happen through sheer force of will. And while that's gotten you far (hello, impressive career and perfectly organized life!), there's a deeper wisdom waiting to be unleashed.

Think about it – how many times have you:

    • Made a decision that looked perfect on paper but felt off in your soul?

    • Pushed aside that nagging feeling that something needed to change?

    • Told yourself "I'm just being silly" when your intuition was sending you signals?

    • Chosen logic over that deep knowing in your gut?

The Real Cost of Hitting 'Mute' on Your Inner Wisdom

The cost of ignoring our intuition isn't just missed opportunities or staying in situations that don't serve us for too long (though that's part of it). The real price we pay is disconnection from our divine feminine wisdom, that gorgeous inner knowing that's been guiding women for centuries. In our rush to be logical, practical, and "professional," we've turned down the volume on our most powerful internal advisor.

There’s more at risk than just missed opportunities. We’re actually fighting for our lives and our healthspan. More than just living a long time (longevity), functional doctor Mark Hyman popularized the idea of healthspan, which means the period of life spent in good health, free from chronic diseases and disabilities. If you can live a long healthy life, wouldn’t it be worth investing in it every single day?

Not to be all doom and gloom, but there is scientific evidence that "Living as a woman in a masculine world" refers to navigating societal systems that prioritize traditionally masculine values such as competition, productivity, and linear thinking over relational, cyclical, and intuitive approaches often associated with feminine energy. This dynamic can be particularly taxing for women, both biologically and emotionally.

When combined with the stress of operating in a masculine-driven world, the interplay between hormones and the immune system becomes more volatile. A 2020 review in *Nature Reviews Endocrinology* revealed that hormonal imbalances caused by chronic stress exacerbate autoimmune responses in women.

But here's the juicy part – your intuition hasn't gone anywhere.

It's still there, patiently waiting for you to tune back in. And the fact that you're reading this right now? That's no coincidence, beautiful. That's your intuition giving you a loving nudge, saying "Finally, she's ready to listen!"

Let’s dive deep into the signs that your intuition is trying to get your attention (spoiler alert: it probably has been for a while!), and I'll share some juicy practices for reconnecting with this powerful part of yourself. Because let's be honest – you didn't come this far in life to keep playing small or ignoring your inner knowing.

II. Physical Signs Your Intuition is Screaming for Attention

You know those moments when your body's sending you messages, but your mind is all "Nah, I'm just being dramatic"? Let's unpack those physical signs that your inner wisdom is trying to get your attention – and trust me, she's persistent!

    • That Gut Feeling You Keep Dismissing

You know that moment – you're about to sign that "perfect" contract, or say yes to that "amazing" opportunity, and suddenly your stomach feels like it's doing the cha-cha. Girl, that's not your lunch disagreeing with you – that's your internal wisdom saying "Let's think about this for a hot minute!" Your gut has more nerve endings than your brain, making it literally your second command center. Maybe it's time to start treating those butterfly feelings less like anxiety and more like your internal advisory board?

It’s important here to know the difference between, I’m so excited and I'm nervous, but his feels right vs. “hold the phone”, this is a no-go for me is really important.

    • Unexplained Physical Symptoms

Picture this: Another "exciting" project lands on your desk, and suddenly that migraine you can't explain shows up. Or that tension headache that mysteriously appears before meetings with that one client. Coincidence? I think not! Your body is like that brutally honest friend who tells you when your outfit isn't working – it won't lie about what's not aligned, even when your mind is trying to play nice.

    • Sleep Disruptions and Dream Messages

If you're joining the 3 AM club more often than your favorite spin class, it might be time to listen up. Those nights when you're wide awake, replaying conversations or planning tomorrow's meetings? Or those dreams where you're constantly running late or unprepared? That's not just stress, beautiful – that's your subconscious pulling an all-nighter to get your attention!

    • Energy Drains and Sudden Fatigue

Ever notice how some meetings leave you feeling like you've run a marathon in heels, while others energize you like your favorite oat milk latte? That random afternoon slump during certain calls isn't about needing more caffeine – it's your energy body's way of giving you the tea about what truly deserves your precious time and what's stealing your sparkle.

    • Tension Patterns in Your Body

Let's do a quick body scan:

    • Jaw so tight you could crack walnuts before certain meetings?

    • Shoulders doing their best earrings impression during team calls?

    • Neck getting its own personal workout when thinking about that "incredible" opportunity?

These aren't just signs you need another massage (though treat yourself, Queen!) – they're your body's version of a group text saying "Can we talk about this?"

    • The Power Move

Here's the game-changer: Start treating these physical signals like VIP messages from your inner CEO. They're not inconveniences to push through – they're intelligence to tune into.

Try this power practice next time you're making a big decision:

    1. Place one hand on your heart

    2. Take three big breaths

    3. Ask yourself: "What's my body trying to tell me?"

    4. Notice what shows up first – that's your intuition's hotline

III. Emotional Signs You're Out of Alignment

Let's get real about those emotional signs you might be brushing off as "just being too sensitive" (spoiler alert: you're not):

    • Constant Second-Guessing Yourself

Despite that impressive track record of yours, do you find yourself doubting decisions you could make in your sleep? When we're disconnected from our intuition, even choosing lunch can feel like a board meeting. That constant "but what if..." spiral? It's often a sign you're tuning into everyone's frequency except your own.

    • People-Pleasing Behaviors Taking Over

Are you the queen of "Sure, I can help with that!" while your own priorities gather dust? That reflexive "yes" before checking your own internal compass isn't efficiency - it's a warning sign. Your time and energy are precious resources, and if you're spending them based on others' demands, it's time for an audit.

    • Feeling Stuck in Decision Paralysis

You can lead a team through a complex project, but choosing your next life move feels impossible? When we're out of sync with our intuition, even small decisions can feel like solving a Rubik's cube blindfolded. That paralysis isn't about lack of capability - it's about disconnection from your inner knowing.

    • Rationalization Overload

"But it makes logical sense..." has become your mantra? While that brilliant analytical mind of yours is a superpower, if you're writing pros/cons lists for every life decision, you might be drowning out your intuitive wisdom with excessive logic. Balance is key, babe!

    • The "Something's Off" Feeling You Can't Shake

That persistent feeling that something isn't quite right, even when everything looks perfect on the outside? That's your intuition sending you a text in ALL CAPS. Instead of archiving that message, maybe it's time to open it and see what it has to say.

Remember, gorgeous - these signs aren't character flaws or professional weaknesses. They're your inner wisdom working overtime to get your attention, like a best friend who knows you're settling for less than you deserve. The question is: are you ready to pick up the call?

IV. Behavioral Patterns That Show You're Ignoring Your Inner Wisdom

Let's talk about those habits that might be keeping you in the "thanks, but no thanks" relationship with your intuition:

    • Overcommitting and Hustle Culture Addiction

Real talk: if your calendar looks like a game of Tetris and "busy" is your default status, you might be using constant motion to avoid inner guidance. That "rise and grind" mentality might have gotten you where you are, but is it taking you where you truly want to go? Your worth isn't measured by your productivity, Queen!

    • Seeking Everyone Else's Opinion

First "Let me ask my friend/mom/coworker/random person on the internet what they think..." Sound familiar? While getting different perspectives is valuable, if you're polling the entire universe before making a decision, you might be outsourcing your power. Your inner wisdom has a vote too – and it should count the most!

    • Procrastinating on Important Life Decisions

That career move you've been "thinking about"? The relationship conversation you keep putting off? When we're disconnected from our intuition, we often park big decisions in the "I'll deal with it later" lot. But here's the truth: procrastination is just your fear of trusting yourself wearing a really good disguise.

    • Numbing Behaviors (Overworking, Scrolling, etc.)

Let's be honest – we all have our favorite ways to avoid feeling our feelings. Maybe it's that extra glass of wine, endless Instagram scrolling, or "just one more hour" of work. These numbing behaviors are like turning up the TV volume to drown out an important conversation your intuition is trying to have with you.

    • Ignoring Synchronicities and Signs

When you're running on autopilot, you might miss the universe's breadcrumbs guiding you forward. Those "random" coincidences, recurring numbers, or meaningful encounters? They're not just cute coincidences – they're cosmic Post-it notes from your intuition!

      V. How to Reconnect with Your Intuition

      • Sacred Morning Practices

No, you don't need to meditate for two hours at sunrise (unless that's your jam!). Start small – maybe it's five minutes of breathing before checking your phone, or sipping your coffee in silence while setting an intention for the day. The key is creating a moment of stillness before the world starts making demands on your energy.

      • Body Wisdom Techniques

Your body never lies, so let's start listening! Try this: Before your next big decision, pause and notice: where do you feel expansion? Where do you feel contraction? That subtle "yes" or "no" in your body is your intuition's favorite language. Simple practices like body scanning, mindful movement, or even just placing your hand on your heart while making decisions can revolutionize your connection to your inner wisdom.

      • Energy Clearing Rituals

Think of this as your energetic shower – quick, refreshing, and necessary! Whether it's sage smudging your workspace (yes, even your corporate office), using crystals, or simply visualizing white light surrounding you between meetings, these practices help clear the static that blocks your intuitive signals. And no, you don't need to go full woo-woo to make this work (unless you want to!).

      • Boundary Setting Practices

Your intuition speaks louder when you create space for it to be heard. Start practicing the power of the sacred pause before saying "yes." Try this: "Let me check my energy and get back to you" – this simple phrase can be your new superpower. Remember, boundaries aren't walls – they're filters that keep your energy clean and your intuition clear.

      • Decision-Making Aligned with Your Truth

Time to upgrade your decision-making process! Instead of just pros and cons, try this: How does this choice feel in your body? Does it energize you or drain you? Does it feel like an expansion or a contraction? Your intuition often knows the answer before your mind catches up – learning to trust that first hit can be game-changing.

These aren't just nice-to-have practices – they're essential tools for any woman ready to lead from her truth. The best part? You get to choose what resonates and leave what doesn't. Your intuitive journey is uniquely yours!

VI. 5 Tools for Strengthening Your Intuitive Muscles

Ready to level up your intuitive game? Think of these tools as your spiritual gym equipment – each one designed to strengthen your connection to that inner knowing:

      • Journal Prompts for Inner Connection

Grab your favorite journal (or that fancy one you've been "saving for something special" – this is it!). Try these soul-stirring prompts:

      • "What would I do if I trusted myself completely?"

      • "Where in my life am I saying 'yes' when my body is screaming 'no'?"

      • "What keeps showing up in my life that I keep pretending not to see?" Pro tip: Write fast, write messy, and don't let your inner critic hold the pen!

      • Meditation and Breathwork Practices

Before you roll your eyes thinking "I can't meditate!" – hear me out! We're not talking hour-long silent retreats (unless that's your thing).

Try this: Three deep breaths before checking your phone in the morning. A 5-minute body scan between meetings. The 4-7-8 breath when you're feeling overwhelmed. These micro-moments of presence are like protein shakes for your intuition!

      • Nature Connection Exercises

Nature is like your intuition's best friend – they speak the same language! Take your shoes off and feel the grass (yes, even in your lunch break). Sit under a tree between calls. Watch the sunset without taking a photo. These moments of natural connection bypass your analytical mind and plug you straight into your intuitive wisdom.

      • Energy Protection Techniques

Think of this as your energetic hygiene – essential for keeping your intuitive signals clear. Visualize a bubble of light around you before entering high-stakes meetings. Set energetic boundaries before scrolling social media. Create a quick clearing ritual between client calls. Your energy field is precious – protect it like the queen you are!

      • Intuitive Decision-Making Framework

Time to upgrade your decision-making operating system! Try this framework:

      1. Pause and breathe

      2. Check in with your body

      3. Notice your first gut reaction

      4. Ask "Is this aligned with my highest good?"

      5. Trust the first answer that comes

Remember: Your intuition speaks in the first three seconds – everything after that is usually your mind trying to talk you out of it!

VII. How to Maintain the Connection with Your Intuition

Now that you're reconnected with your intuitive superpower, let's talk about keeping that connection strong and steady:

      • Creating Daily Sacred Space

You don't need a meditation room with crystal grids (though if you have one, rock on!). Sacred space can be your morning coffee ritual, your shower meditation, or even your commute playlist. The key is consistency – find those moments in your day that can be transformed from mundane to meaningful.

      • Building Supportive Relationships

Surround yourself with people who get it! Find your soul sisters who won't look at you weird when you say "my gut is telling me no." Create a circle of truth-tellers who'll remind you to trust yourself when you forget. And sometimes, that means lovingly releasing relationships that drain your intuitive energy.

      • Regular Energy Maintenance

Think of this as your spiritual self-care routine. Just like you schedule your workouts and meetings, block time for energy clearing and intuitive check-ins. Maybe it's a monthly new moon ritual, a weekly bath meditation, or daily oracle card pulls. Find what works for your vibe and make it non-negotiable.

      • Honoring Your Rhythms and Cycles

News flash: You're not meant to operate like a machine! Your energy ebbs and flows with your cycles, the moon, the seasons. Start tracking your energy patterns. Notice when you're naturally more intuitive (hello, pre-menstrual wisdom!). Plan your big decisions and actions around your natural rhythms instead of fighting against them.

      • Celebrating Intuitive Wins

Keep an "Intuition Victory Log" – those moments when you trusted your gut and it paid off. The time you cancelled that meeting because something felt off (and later found out why). The client you said no to who turned out to be a bullet dodged. These celebrations build your intuitive confidence and remind you that your inner GPS is always on point!

Remember: Maintaining your intuitive connection isn't about being perfect – it's about being persistent. Some days you'll be totally in flow, others you might feel disconnected. That's normal! The key is coming back to these practices again and again, with grace and determination.

Each time you choose to listen to your inner wisdom, you're not just making a decision – you're making a declaration. A declaration that says "I trust myself. I honor my truth. I choose my path.”

      Your Next Chapter Awaits

If you're reading this and feeling that familiar flutter in your stomach, that spark of recognition, or that gentle whisper saying "this is what I've been looking for" – guess what? That's your intuition already working its magic!

You're ready for more. More alignment. More authenticity. More soul-led success. More joy. More ease. More TRUST in yourself.

The question isn't whether you have intuitive wisdom – you absolutely do. The question is: are you ready to claim it?

5 Ways to Reclaim Your Feminine Energy in a Masculine-Driven World

Feminine energy is pure creative power. But in a world that celebrates constant hustle, it can sometimes feel like it takes a back seat to the action-driven, goal-oriented masculine energy.

Ever feel like you're constantly in "go mode," hustling through the day, checking off to-do lists, and always pushing for more?

While that drive is powerful, it often leans heavily into masculine energy—focused on action, structure, and results.

But what about the other side of you? The side that craves creativity, intuition, and flow?

High-performance women, like you, are masters at getting things done, but living in alignment also means honoring your feminine energy. It’s not about slowing down or doing less—it’s about reclaiming your inner wisdom, nurturing your creativity, and embracing a more balanced, fulfilling way of living.

Let’s dive into five powerful ways you can start reconnecting with your feminine energy in a masculine-driven world, all while leveling up in life.

      1. Feminine energy is powerful.

Feminine energy is pure creative power. But in a world that celebrates constant hustle, it can sometimes feel like it takes a back seat to the action-driven, goal-oriented masculine energy.

Here’s the thing—feminine energy isn’t about being passive or weak. It’s about being connected to your intuition, creativity, and flow. It’s the energy that lets you tap into your inner wisdom, move with grace, and create from a place of deep knowing.

When you’re living in alignment with your feminine energy, you’re not pushing or forcing things to happen. Instead, you’re allowing things to unfold naturally, trusting the process, and embracing the journey. This doesn’t mean you lose your edge. It means you balance your go-getter side with a deeper connection to yourself and the world around you. Creation flows from the core of you, from the fully embraced essence of you. It’s oceanic, powerful and fully activated.

Understanding and embracing your feminine energy is about knowing that you don’t have to always be in control. There’s immense power in surrendering, in trusting your instincts, and in nurturing both yourself and your relationships. It’s time to reclaim this energy and let it fuel your path forward.

2: Create Space for Stillness and Intuition

In a world that constantly pushes us to go, go, go, creating space for stillness is like hitting the reset button for your soul. Feminine energy thrives in moments of quiet and reflection, allowing you to hear your inner voice—something that’s easy to drown out when you're always in action mode.

Feminine energy isn't rushed; it flows.

And to access that flow, you need moments of calm where you can tap into your intuition. This is your superpower.

When was the last time you paused, tuned out the noise, and actually listened to your inner voice?

Creating space for stillness, whether it's through meditation, a quiet walk in nature, or simply taking a few deep breaths during the day, helps you reconnect with your intuition. This is where you find answers, clarity, and the next steps aligned with your true self.

It’s in those quiet moments that your inner guidance can speak the loudest. The more you practice stillness, the more you’ll notice how your body and intuition already know what’s right for you—without needing external validation.

Start small, maybe five minutes a day. Let yourself slow down, and you'll be amazed at how your intuition starts to guide you, making you feel more aligned with who you truly are.

        3: Embrace Creative Expression

Your creativity is one of the most powerful ways to tap into your feminine energy. When you let yourself play, explore, and create without limits, you’re reconnecting with that natural, flowing energy within you. And here’s the best part—you don’t have to be an “artist” to do this. It’s about expressing yourself in whatever way feels right for you, without worrying about perfection or outcomes. It’s presence, not perfection.

Whether it’s journaling, painting, dancing, or even cooking, the key is to let go of the need to control or perform.

This is your time to feel into the process, not force it.

Feminine energy flourishes in moments of flow—when you’re in the zone and totally immersed in what you’re doing. It’s where your authentic self shines through, and creativity becomes a powerful tool for realigning with your true desires.

So, give yourself permission to embrace that creative spark. Play with colors, sounds, or words. Move your body in ways that feel good. Let your imagination roam free, and watch how your feminine energy naturally rises, guiding you back to living in alignment. When you create, you’re not just making art—you’re making space for your soul to speak.

        4. Embody Your Sensuality and Pleasure

Here’s something we don't always talk about: your feminine energy is deeply connected to your capacity for pleasure and sensuality.

And no, I’m not just talking about romance—this is about fully experiencing life through your senses. Feminine energy invites you to slow down and enjoy the richness of everyday moments, whether it's savoring your morning coffee, feeling the warmth of the sun on your face, or immersing yourself in music that moves your soul. The feeling of the air on your skin, the breath in your chest, the feeling of soft cashmere on your shoulders.

In a masculine-driven world, pleasure often takes a backseat to productivity. But by tapping into your sensuality—whether through mindful movement, delicious self-care rituals, or creative expression—you bring yourself back into alignment with your body and your joy.

Let yourself embrace the small things that light you up.

Wear clothes that make you feel amazing, dance like no one’s watching, or indulge in a nourishing meal without rushing. These simple acts of pleasure remind you to inhabit your body fully and live from a place of flow rather than force. They can act as a rebellious message to the world, my pleasure is my priority. Tt’s the one thing they can’t take from you if you don't let them.

The more you prioritize pleasure, the more you unlock the powerful, magnetic energy within.

        5. Build Deep, Supportive Relationships

One of the most powerful ways to reclaim your feminine energy is by surrounding yourself with people who uplift and support you. Feminine energy thrives in connection—it’s collaborative, nurturing, and all about building meaningful, heart-centered relationships

We’re not meant to go it alone, and building strong, supportive relationships is key to living in alignment. When you surround yourself with people who lift you up, encourage your growth, and hold space for your vulnerability, your feminine energy expands naturally.

Creating meaningful relationships is about more than just surface-level interactions. It’s about cultivating trust, empathy, and real, heart-centered connection.

Whether it’s deepening your bond with friends, family, or mentors/coaches, or even building a community of like-minded women, these relationships help you feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Take time to invest in the relationships that matter.

Schedule regular check-ins, share your dreams, and be open to receiving support when you need it. Feminine energy isn’t about doing it all alone—it’s about embracing the power of community and collaboration. When you have a strong support system, you’re not only reclaiming your feminine energy but also strengthening your foundation to level up in every area of your life.

Remember, your feminine energy is your superpower.

It’s where your strength, creativity, and intuition come from.

You’ve got the power within you to realign, to live a life that feels more true, more vibrant, and more you. It’s time to honor your natural rhythms, trust your instincts, and prioritize what makes you feel alive. This journey back to your feminine energy will not only help you level up your life but also allow you to shine brighter than ever.

So, are you ready to step into this power? You’re more than capable of reclaiming the energy that makes you feel empowered, aligned, and unstoppable.

        Let’s make it happen!

How To Navigate Career Transitions with Confidence: A Roadmap for Women in Their 40s

If you're reading this, chances are you're feeling that familiar tug – you know, the one that whispers "There's something more for me out there." Maybe you're scrolling through LinkedIn thinking, "Is this really it?" Or perhaps you're driving home from another day at your "perfectly fine" job, wondering why you're not jumping out of bed excited anymore.

Ready for Your Next Chapter? Hell Yes, You Are!

I'm here to tell you something important: That voice in your head, the one telling you it's time for a change? She's not crazy. She's wise. And your 40s might just be the perfect time to listen to her.

"But Christie," you might be thinking, "isn't it too risky to make a career change now?"

Here's what nobody tells you about being a woman in your 40s – you're actually in your career sweet spot. You've got the perfect combo of experience and energy, wisdom and wonder, confidence and curiosity. You're not just ready for a change; you're primed for it.

And those butterflies in your stomach? They're not warning signs – they're excitement. Let's dive into why this is actually the perfect moment for your next big move.

1.Why Women in Their 40s Are Career Transition Queens

You've Got the Secret Sauce: Experience

Remember your 20s, when you were trying to figure out how to look professional while making coffee money stretch until payday? Look at you now! You've got years of experience under your belt, and not just the kind that goes on a resume. You've navigated office politics, handled difficult personalities, and solved problems your younger self couldn't have imagined. That's wisdom, darling, and it looks incredible on you.

Your Emotional Intelligence Is Off the Charts

Let's talk about your superpower for a minute. After four-plus decades on this planet, you've developed what I like to call your "people radar." You can read a room better than a detective, manage relationships like a pro, and navigate complex situations with grace. That emotional intelligence? It's pure gold in today's workplace.

        You Know Your Worth (Finally!)

Gone are the days of saying "sorry" for having an opinion or minimizing your achievements. You've learned the hard way that your voice matters, and you're not afraid to use it. You know what you bring to the table, and it's a feast (OK maybe it’s just the really good wine)!

Financial Savvy Is Your Middle Name

Unlike your 20-something self who might have jumped ship without a life jacket, you're smarter now. You understand numbers, you've got some savings (even if it's not as much as you'd like), and you know how to make strategic decisions. This means you can plan your transition with confidence rather than desperation.

        The "Too Late" Myth? Please!

Let's bust this myth wide open. Here are some fun facts to keep in your back pocket:

        • Vera Wang didn't design her first dress until she was 40

        • Julia Child didn't learn to cook until her late 30s and published her first cookbook at 50

        • Louise Hay started Hay House Publishing in 1988 at the age of 62

        • Robin Chase co-founded Zipcar at 42

        • Martha Stewart didn't build her media empire until her 40s

And guess what they all had in common? Years of life experience that helped them succeed.

        Your Values Are Crystal Clear

Here's something magical about your 40s – you finally know who you are. You're clear about your values, what you will and won't tolerate, and what truly matters to you. This clarity? It's your compass for making the right career moves, not just the obvious ones.

You've Got Battle Scars (And They're Beautiful)

Every setback, every mistake, every "learning opportunity" (don't you love that phrase?) has taught you something valuable. You've learned what you're capable of, how to bounce back, and most importantly, that you can handle whatever comes your way.

        The Power of Been-There-Done-That

Think about all the "first times" you've already conquered:

        • First big presentation ✓

        • First difficult conversation ✓

        • First major project ✓

        • First career setback ✓

        • First big win ✓

Each of these experiences is a tool in your belt, making you better equipped for your next adventure than ever before.

        The Bottom Line

Your 40s aren't the time to settle – they're the time to soar. You've spent years building skills, gaining wisdom, and figuring out who you are. Now it's time to use all of that to create a career that lights you up.

        2.Signs It's Time for a Career Transition

        A. Feeling Stuck or Unfulfilled

Let's get real - you're a rockstar at what you do, but lately, that spark just isn't there anymore. You know that pit in your stomach every Sunday evening? Yeah, that's not just about Monday blues, gorgeous. When even your biggest wins at work feel kind of... meh? That's your inner goddess waving a big red flag, telling you it's time to shake things up!

        B. Values Misalignment with Current Role

Ever sit in another meeting thinking, "Is this really what I'm meant to be doing?" I hear you, I've been you! Maybe you've evolved (hello, personal growth!), but your role feels like those trendy jeans from five years ago - why did you ever think they looked good? Whether you're craving more meaningful impact or feeling disconnected from your company's mission, that nagging feeling isn't just workplace drama. It's your soul calling for more!

        C. Desire for More Flexibility or Autonomy

You've crushed it in your career, proven yourself a thousand times over, and yet... you're still playing by someone else's rules? If you're dreaming of:

        • Creating a schedule that actually works for YOU (because who says peak productivity happens at 9 AM?)

        • Being there for your kiddos' special moments without the side-eye from colleagues

        • Making time for that yoga class or meditation practice you've been putting off

        • Calling the shots without running through endless approval chains

If any of these scream, it’s me ...then you're ready for a change!

        D. Industry Changes

Real talk: the business world is moving at lightning speed. Are you noticing:

        • Robots and AI doing jobs that humans used to do

        • Your tried-and-true skills becoming "so last season"

        • The office buzzwords starting to sound like a foreign language

        • Your industry is looking shakier than a Jenga tower (um, my industry FinTech is definitely taking its hits these days).

Don't wait for change to happen TO you, listen to your intuition, if it's saying you should be thinking about something else, then get curious.

        E. Health and Wellness Considerations

Your body is like your personal GPS system - and when it's sending you signals, it's time to listen up! Watch out for:

        • Stress that even your favorite spa day can't fix

        • Tossing and turning at night with work on your mind

        • Your body is literally screaming "enough!" (hello tension headaches and stress eating)

        • Feeling more drained than a phone battery at the end of the day

        3. Practical Steps for Your Career Shift

Okay, lovely, now that you're feeling that fire in your belly and that sparkle in your soul, let's talk about turning those dreams into your gorgeous reality!

This is where the magic meets the practical – because manifesting that dream career isn't just about vision boards and affirmations (though I love those too!). It's about taking inspired action that aligns with your highest self.

        • Come armed with questions that showcase your brilliance

        • Turn those conference connections into meaningful relationships

        • Step into the spotlight as a speaker or moderator (yes, you've got this!)

        2. Professional Associations

6 Strategies for High-Achieving Women to Go From Burnout to Balance

Burnout is real, and it's hitting high-achieving women like us harder than ever. These strategies are sharper than your favorite heels and support stronger than your most dependable bra!

Hey superwoman! Yes, I'm talking to you – the unstoppable force who's crushing it in your career, juggling a million responsibilities, and still managing to look fabulous (even if it's just from the waist up on Zoom calls).

But let me ask you something: when was the last time you took a breath? I mean a real, deep, soul-nourishing breath that didn't involve inhaling your third cup of coffee for the day?

If you're reading this, chances are you're intimately familiar with that nagging feeling that you're running on fumes. Maybe you've even worn your exhaustion like a badge of honor. After all, isn't that what successful women do? Spoiler alert: it's not, and it's time we change that narrative.

Burnout is real, and it's hitting high-achieving women like us harder than ever. We're talking about that bone-deep fatigue that coffee can't fix, the brain fog that has you reading the same email five times, and that sneaking suspicion that somewhere along the way, you've lost touch with the vibrant, passionate woman you used to be. This version of you is living to get to the point in the day where you can turn off the computer, stop driving everyone around and crawling into bed.

But here's the good news, babe: it doesn't have to be this way. Imagine a life where you're still killing it in your career, but you're also sleeping like a baby, laughing until your sides hurt, and feeling a zest for life that you thought you'd left behind in your 20s. Sounds too good to be true? It's not, and I'm here to show you how.

The Not-So-Secret Signs You're Running on Empty

Alright, lovely, let's get real for a minute. You know that superhero cape you've been wearing? The one that's a little frayed at the edges but you refuse to take off? Well, it might be time to give it a well-deserved break. But first, we need to talk about how to spot the signs that you're not just tired, you're capital-B Burned Out.

        1. Your Body's Throwing a Fit

Remember when you used to bounce out of bed, ready to seize the day? Now it feels like your body's staging a full-on revolt. Here's what it might look like:

        • You're more intimate with your snooze button than your partner

        • Headaches have become your unwelcome BFF

        • Your digestion is... let's just say it's seen better days

        • You catch every cold that dares to come within a 10-mile radius

If your body had a voice, it'd be screaming, "Mayday! Mayday!" Time to listen up, sister.

        2. Your Emotions Are on a Roller Coaster (And Not the Fun Kind)

Being a high-achiever doesn't mean being an emotional robot. But if you're feeling more mood swings than a pendulum, it might be burnout knocking. Watch out for:

        • Feeling irritable over the smallest things (like your coworker's breathing... too loudly)

        • A sense of dread when you think about work or responsibilities

        • Emotional exhaustion that has you feeling numb or disconnected

        • The sneaking suspicion that you've lost your mojo and passion

        3. Your Behavior's Doing a 180

You're a powerhouse, a force of nature. But lately? Not so much. If you're nodding along to these, it's time to pay attention:

        • Procrastination has become your middle name

        • You're isolating yourself from friends and family

        • That glass of wine has turned into a nightly bottle

        • Your usual impeccable work is starting to slip

Stress vs. Burnout: Know the Difference

Now, I can hear you thinking, "But Christie, isn't this just stress? I can handle stress!" And you're right, you absolutely can. But here's the thing: stress is like a sprint, burnout is a marathon you never signed up for.

Stress usually has an end in sight. It's that project deadline, that big presentation, that week your in-laws are visiting.

Burnout? It's the chronic feeling that the finish line keeps moving, and you're running on empty. The term “overwhelmed” comes to mind more often than you’d like to admit.

        Here's a quick cheat sheet:

        • Stress = "I have too much to do, but I can power through."

        • Burnout = "I have too much to do, and I just can't anymore."

The good news? Recognizing these signs isn't admitting defeat – it's the first powerful step towards reclaiming your vibrant, balanced self. It's you saying, "Hey, I matter, and it's time I started treating myself like the queen I am."

So, how many of these signs are you ticking off? If it's more than a couple, don't panic and take a deep breath. You're not alone, you're not weak, and this is not your new normal. This is just your cue to make some changes, and honey, change is what you do best.

Why Brilliant Women Like You End Up Burned Out

Now that we've identified the signs of burnout, let's dig into why it happens. Spoiler alert: It's not because you're not tough enough or smart enough. In fact, it's often because you're so capable that you've ended up here. Let's unpack this, shall we?

        1. Perfectionism: The Double-Edged Sword

Remember when being a perfectionist was like a humble brag in job interviews? Well, in the real world, it's more like a superpower that sometimes goes rogue. Here's the deal:

        • You set impossibly high standards for yourself (hello, 2 AM email checks)

        • The thought of making a mistake keeps you up at night (or prevents sleep in the first place)

        • You spend hours tweaking that presentation that was already great three versions ago

Sound familiar? Your perfectionism has helped you soar, but it might also be clipping your wings. The key is learning when "good enough" is actually... well, good enough!

        2. The "Yes" Trap: When No Becomes a Dirty Word

Picture this: Your plate is full, your cup is overflowing, and someone asks you to take on just one more tiny thing. What do you say? If you're like most high-achieving women, you say yes faster than you can blink. Why?

        • You don't want to let anyone down (except maybe yourself)

        • You're worried saying no will make you look incapable

        • Deep down, you believe you should be able to do it all

Newsflash: learning to say "No" won’t make you unlikable or limit your career. It's time to make friends with boundaries, lady!

        3. Self-Care? More Like Self-Where?

Between crushing it at work, maintaining relationships, and maybe raising tiny humans, where exactly is "me time" supposed to fit?

If you're laughing at the mere thought of self-care, you're not alone. But here's the truth:

        • Skipping meals or surviving on coffee is not a sustainable food group

        • Sleep is not a luxury; it's a necessity (yes, even for you)

        • Your yoga mat misses you (and no, walking to get your coffee doesn't count as exercise)

Self-care isn't selfish; it's the oxygen mask you need to put on before helping others. And trust me, you can't pour from an empty cup, no matter how hard you try.

        4. Imposter Syndrome: The Uninvited Party Guest

Oh, hello there, little voice of doubt! Imposter syndrome is like that annoying party guest who shows up uninvited and then refuses to leave. It whispers things like:

        • "You just got lucky."

        • "They're going to figure out you don't belong here."

        • "Everyone else has it together except you."

News flash: Even the most successful women deal with this. The trick isn't getting rid of it entirely (sorry!), but learning to dance with it rather than let it lead.

        5. The Balancing Act: Juggling Work, Life, and Everything in Between

You're not just wearing many hats; you're wearing an entire hat shop. Balancing career ambitions with personal life can feel like trying to solve a Rubik's cube blindfolded. And let's be real, sometimes it feels like:

        • Your career is soaring, but your personal life is in the weeds

        • You're killing it as a mom, but your professional goals are gathering dust

        • You're so busy taking care of everyone else, you've forgotten who you are

Here's the truth: Balance isn't about perfection; it's about making conscious choices that align with your values and goals.

So, babe, how many of these root causes resonate with you? If you're nodding along, know that you're in good company. These challenges are common among brilliant, ambitious women like yourself. But here's the exciting part: Now that we've identified them, we can start tackling them head-on.

The Mind-Body Connection: Your Secret Weapon Against Burnout

Let's talk about the dynamic duo that's been with you since day one: your mind and body. These two are like the ultimate power couple, and when they're in sync, you're unstoppable. But when burnout crashes the party, it's like they're suddenly speaking different languages.

        1. Your Body: The World's Most Honest Friend

Remember when you could pull an all-nighter, subsist on coffee and determination, and still rock that presentation the next day? Yeah, those were the days. But here's the truth bomb: it’s not sustainable for the long run and your body's been trying to tell you something. It's time we started listening.

Burnout isn't just a state of mind; it's a full-body experience. Those headaches? Your body's version of a desperate text message. That constant fatigue? It's basically your body staging a sit-in protest. Here's how burnout might be showing up physically:

        • Chronic fatigue (and no, another espresso shot isn't the answer)

        • Insomnia (oh, the irony of being exhausted but unable to sleep)

        • Weakened immune system (hello, office cold... again)

        • Muscle tension and pain (your shoulders are not meant to live as earrings)

The good news? Your body's incredible at healing itself when you give it half a chance. It's time to start treating your body less like a workhorse and more like the thoroughbred it is.

If you start to listen to the whispers from your body, it won't have to start screaming in the form of something much worse. We are not meant to live like this perpetually.

Research from the Mayo Clinic states that: the long-term activation of the stress response system and too much exposure to cortisol and other stress hormones can disrupt almost all the body's processes. This puts you at higher risk of many health problems, including:

        • Anxiety.

        • Depression.

        • Digestive problems.

        • Headaches.

        • Muscle tension and pain.

        • Heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke.

        • Sleep problems.

        • Weight gain.

        • Problems with memory and focus.

In the wild, animals often face situations that trigger the "fight or flight" response—a survival mechanism that involves the release of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. When an animal encounters a threat, such as a predator, this response kicks in, preparing their body to either confront the danger (fight) or escape (flight). After the threat has passed, however, many animals engage in a physical behavior known as "shaking it off." This is a visible, full-body shake that helps to release the tension that has built up in their muscles and nervous system during the stressful encounter.

This shaking serves as a natural way for animals to regulate their nervous systems, allowing them to discharge the excess energy and bring their cortisol levels back to balance. Essentially, this act helps to "reset" their bodies after the stress, allowing them to return to a state of calm and equilibrium. Without this discharge, the elevated cortisol levels and tension could linger in their systems, potentially leading to chronic stress.

For humans, this phenomenon can offer an important lesson. While we don’t often face physical predators, we experience stressors in daily life that can similarly activate our fight or flight response—like work pressures, conflicts, or sudden changes. Unlike animals, though, humans often skip this step of physically releasing tension, which can result in a buildup of stress over time. This is why practices like shaking, dancing, or other forms of physical movement can be effective tools for helping us "shake off" stress and bring our bodies back to a more relaxed, balanced state.

        2. Sleep: Your Nightly Spa Treatment

Let's talk about sleep. It's not a luxury; it's a necessity. Think of sleep as your body's nightly spa treatment – it's when all the good stuff happens. Repair, rejuvenation, processing the day's events – it's all going down while you're in dreamland.

But when burnout hits, good sleep can feel as elusive as a unicorn. Here's your new mission, should you choose to accept it (spoiler: you should): Prioritize sleep like it's your job. Because in a way, it is.

        Quick sleep hacks:

        • Create a bedtime routine (yes, like the one you had as a kid, but with more face masks and less stuffed animals)

        • Keep your bedroom cool and dark (think bat cave, but cozier)

        • Ditch the screens an hour before bed (I know, I know, but trust me on this one)

        3. Nutrition: Fuel for Your Fire

You are what you eat, and if you're burning out, chances are your diet could use a little love. I'm not talking about going full rabbit-food mode here. It's about finding a balance that fuels your body and makes you feel good.

Think of food as fuel for your inner fire. You wouldn't put cheap gas in a Ferrari, would you? (And trust me, you're way more valuable than any sports car.) Here's the deal:

        • Hydrate like it's your job (because it kind of is)

        • Embrace whole foods (they're like nature's multivitamin)

        • Don't skip meals (your body needs consistent fuel)

        • Indulge mindfully (because life's too short to say no to chocolate)

        4. Exercise: Your Personal Stress-Buster

I can hear the groans already. But here's the thing: exercise isn't punishment. It's a celebration of what your body can do. And when it comes to battling burnout, it's your secret weapon.

Exercise releases endorphins (nature's happy pills), reduces stress, and can even help you sleep better. It's like a three-for-one deal, and you're the one who profits.

        Find something you love:

        • Dance like nobody's watching (even if the neighbors can see you)

        • Take a nature walk (forest bathing is a thing, look it up!)

        • Try yoga (it's like a massage you give yourself)

        • Hit the gym (and release your inner Beast Mode)

The key is consistency, not perfection. Ten minutes a day is better than an hour once a month.

The Bottom Line: Your Body, Your Rules

Here's the empowering part: You're in charge here. Your body is this amazing machine that's designed to support you, and now you have the owner's manual. It's time to start treating yourself with the same care and respect you give to everyone else in your life.

Remember, this isn't about adding more to your to-do list. It's about prioritizing the things that will help you show up as your best self in all areas of your life. It's not selfish; it's strategic.

Your Toolkit for Balance and Support

Now it's time to arm yourself with some serious burnout-busting weaponry. We're talking strategies sharper than your favorite heels and support stronger than your most dependable bra. Ready to reclaim your life? Let's dive in!

Strategy #1: Prioritization: Because You Can't (And Shouldn't) Do All The Things

Remember when we talked about saying "yes" to everything? Well, it's time to make "no" your new favorite word. But don't worry, we're going to do it with style.

Enter the Eisenhower Matrix, your new best friend in decision-making:

        1. Urgent and Important: Do it now, baby!

        2. Important but Not Urgent: Schedule it (and actually stick to that schedule).

        3. Urgent but Not Important: Delegate it. Yes, you can let go. I believe in you!

        4. Not Urgent and Not Important: Drop it like it's hot. Seriously, just don't do it.

Pro Tip: Start each day by identifying your "Top 3". These are the tasks that, if accomplished, will make you feel like a total boss. Everything else is gravy.

Follow the 80/20 rule, also known as the Pareto Principle. It’s a general guideline that states that 80% of results come from 20% of efforts. It's based on the observation that most things have an unequal distribution, and that a small amount of effort can have a large impact.

Strategy #2: Time-Blocking: Your Calendar, Your Rules

Imagine your ideal day. Does it involve back-to-back meetings, constant email checking, and lunch at your desk? Didn't think so. Time-blocking is your secret weapon for creating days that energize rather than drain you.

        Here's how:

        1. Block out time for important work (when you're at your best - probably first thing in the morning/week).

        2. Schedule breaks (yes, schedule them!).

        3. Set boundaries for emails and meetings.

        4. Don't forget to block time for yourself – self-care isn't selfish, it's necessary!

Remember: Your calendar is not a to-do list for other people. It's a canvas for creating your best life.

Strategy #3: Boundaries: Your Personal Force Field

Setting boundaries is like installing a security system for your well-being. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but trust me, it's worth it.

        Start small:

        • No work emails after 7 PM.

        • One day a week is completely work-free.

        • "No" is a complete sentence (but "I'm flattered, but I can't take that on right now" works too).

        • At Work: Learn to say, "I'd love to help, but my plate is full right now. Can we revisit this next week?" It's not rude; it's responsible.

        • In Personal Relationships: It's okay to say, "I need some alone time to recharge." Your true friends will understand. The others? Well, that's what the "decline call" button is for.

Strategy #4: Mindfulness: Your Superpower for Staying Present

Mindfulness isn't just for yoga gurus and people who drink kale smoothies (though if that's you, rock on!). It's for boss ladies like you who want to stay grounded in a world that's constantly trying to sweep you off your feet.

        1. Meditation: Start with just 5 minutes a day. There are apps for that, or you can simply sit and focus on your breath. It's like a power nap for your brain.

        2. Mindful Work Habits: Try the Pomodoro Technique – 25 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5-minute break. It's like interval training for your productivity!

Strategy #5: Reconnecting with Your Passion: Finding Your "Hell Yeah!"

Remember when you used to get excited about your work? Let's bring that feeling back:

        1. Identify Your Core Values: What matters most to you? Is it creativity, impact, or freedom? Write it down.

        2. Align Your Daily Activities: Look at your to-do list. How many items align with your core values? If the answer is "not many," it's time for a change, sister.

Strategy #6: The Power of Your Tribe: You're Not in This Alone

Humans are social creatures (yes, even us introverts). Building a strong support system is like creating your own personal cheer squad.

        1. Professional Network: Join a women's networking group or find a mentor. Surrounding yourself with other powerhouse women can be incredibly inspiring.

        2. Personal Relationships: Nurture those friendships that fill your cup. You know, the ones where you can show up in sweatpants, no makeup, and still feel like a queen.

        3. Mentorship Magic: Be a mentor, find a mentor/coach, or both! Sharing wisdom goes both ways, and it's incredibly fulfilling.

        4. Professional Help: Sometimes, you need to call in the big guns. A therapist or life coach can provide invaluable support and perspective. (And no, seeing a therapist doesn't mean you're broken. It means you're brave.)

Redefining Success: Because You're the Boss of Your Life

Let's talk about something juicy: success. Remember when success meant having the corner office, the fancy title, and the ability to survive on coffee and willpower alone? Yeah, let's throw that outdated definition out the window!

Here's a radical thought: What if success meant feeling fulfilled, energized, and genuinely happy? gasp

        Ask yourself:

        • Does climbing the corporate ladder make your heart sing, or does it feel like you're on a hamster wheel?

        • Is work-life balance more important to you than a fancy title?

        • Do you measure success by the size of your paycheck or the size of your impact?

There's no right or wrong answer here. The point is to figure out what success looks like for YOU, not for your parents, your peers, or that annoyingly perfect Instagram influencer.

        Metrics That Actually Matter

Try this exercise: Imagine yourself at 80 years old, looking back on your life.

What would make you smile? What would you be proud of? Is it the 60-hour work weeks, or is it the memories you made with loved ones? Is it the promotion you got, or the lives you touched?

Instead of measuring success by your bank account or LinkedIn endorsements, try these on for size:

        • Joy quotient: How often do you laugh or smile in a day?

        • Energy level: Can you make it through the day without mainlining caffeine?

        • Presence: Are you actually there for the important moments in your life?

        • Growth: Are you learning and evolving, or just running on a hamster wheel?

        • Impact index: How are you making the world (or at least your little corner of it) better?

Remember, you're the CEO of your life. You get to decide what success looks like.

Celebrating Small Wins: Because Life's Too Short Not to Party

You know how kids get excited about everything? "I tied my shoes!" "I ate all my vegetables!" "I didn't pee my pants today!" (Okay, maybe that last one is just exciting for the parents.)

The point is, somewhere along the way, we stopped celebrating the small stuff. Let's bring that back!

        Did you:

        • Get out of bed when you really didn't want to? Victory dance!

        • Say no to something that didn't align with your values? High five!

        • Drink water instead of your fifth coffee? You're basically a health guru!

Remember: Every big win is just a series of small wins strung together. So celebrate them all!

Creating Sustainable Habits: Because Rome Wasn't Built in a Day

Now that we've redefined success, let's talk about how to make these changes stick. Because let's face it, we've all had those "New Year, New Me" moments that fizzled out faster than a diet cola.

Your Personalized Self-Care Routine: One Size Does Not Fit All

Self-care isn't just about bubble baths and face masks (though if that's your jam, go for it!). It's about consistently doing things that fill your cup.

        Your self-care routine might include:

        • Morning pages to brain dump before the day starts and a morning meditation (even if it's just 5 minutes)

        • Regular exercise (dance party in your living room counts!)

        • A lunchtime walk to clear your head and healthy eating (and yes, chocolate can be part of a balanced diet)

        • Quality time with loved ones (virtually counts too)

        • Pursuing hobbies (dust off that guitar or those knitting needles)

        • An evening gratitude practice to end the day on a high note

Whatever it is, make it something you look forward to, not another chore on your to-do list.

Regular Check-Ins: Because You're Your Own Best Accountability Partner

Schedule a date with yourself every month to check in. Ask yourself:

        • How am I feeling overall?

        • What's working well in my life?

        • What needs tweaking?

        • Am I living in alignment with my values?

Pro tip: Write these reflections down. It's amazing to look back and see how far you've come!

Adapting as You Grow: Because Change is the Only Constant

Here's the thing about life: it's always changing. What worked for you last year might not work now, and that's okay!

Be willing to adjust your strategies as your life evolves. Flexibility is your superpower here.

        You've Got This, Gorgeous!

        Remember:

        1. Burnout isn't a badge of honor. It's a sign that something needs to change.

        2. Your mind and body are in this together. Treat them both with love.

        3. Balance isn't about perfection; it's about making choices that align with your values.

        4. Success is personal. Define it on your own terms.

        5. Small changes lead to big results. Celebrate every win, no matter how small.

        6. You're not alone in this journey. Lean on your support system.

Most importantly, remember that you're not alone on this journey. Whether it's leaning on your support system, seeking professional help, or working with a coach (wink wink), don't be afraid to ask for support.

How to Recognize When You're Out of Alignment - 6 Simple Steps to Realign

Have you ever felt like something’s just...off? Maybe you’re killing it at work, but you’re still feeling stuck, drained, or feeling barely alive. This could be a sign you’re out of alignment with yourself and honestly, it happens to all of us. When you’re a high-achiever juggling a million things—career, relationships, personal growth—it’s easy to lose sight of what really lights you up.

What does it mean to live in alignment?

Living in alignment means that you know what’s important to you and you actively incorporate these things into your daily life. It isn’t about being perfect or having it all figured out, and we need to be careful not to use “living out of alignment” as another way to judge ourselves, another thing on our “to do” list where we’re falling short.

It’s about creating a life that feels good from the inside out. When your actions match your values and you’re moving with purpose, life feels easier. You are more energized, confident, and ready to tackle anything that comes your way.

        Signs You’re Out of Alignment

You know those moments when everything feels like an uphill battle, and no matter how hard you push, things just don’t seem to click?

That’s a pretty clear sign you’re out of alignment. It’s not always obvious at first, but once you tune into how you're feeling, the signs are all there.

Here are a few common ways being out of alignment shows up:

        • You feel stuck or unmotivated

Even when you’re crushing it in your career or personal goals, something feels off. It’s like you’re going through the motions but not really feeling it. If your usual drive and excitement are missing, it might be a sign that you’re out of sync with what truly matters to you.

        • You’re constantly drained

You could be getting enough sleep, eating well, and doing all the “right” things, but you still feel exhausted—physically and emotionally. When you’re not living in alignment, life can feel like it’s taking more energy than it’s giving.

        • Things feel harder than they should

You’re putting in effort, but it feels like you’re swimming upstream. Challenges seem bigger, obstacles tougher to overcome, and everything takes a lot more effort. When you’re aligned, there’s more flow and less struggle.

        • You’re ignoring your inner voice

You get that gut feeling, that whisper in the back of your mind, but you brush it off or override it with logic. If you find yourself constantly doubting your intuition or second-guessing your decisions, it could mean you’re not aligned with your inner self.

        • You’re people-pleasing or chasing external validation

If you’re making decisions based on what others expect or think, instead of what you want, you’re out of alignment. Living your life for others is a surefire way to feel disconnected from yourself.

When you’re out of alignment, it’s like you’re pushing uphill all the time. Things feel harder than they need to, and that’s your clue to pause and realign. The good news? You have the power to course-correct and get back to a place where life flows more easily!

Why Living in Alignment is Key to Thriving?

Living in alignment is like hitting that sweet spot where everything just flows. When your mind, body, and soul are working together, life feels easier, more fulfilling, and you operate from a place of confidence and clarity.

        Here's why it’s so powerful:

        1. You’re energized and focused

When you're aligned, you're no longer fighting against yourself. Instead, your energy is directed toward what truly matters, making everything feel lighter and more manageable. Work becomes more fulfilling, lighter, even fun.

        2. Decisions become easier

No more second-guessing or getting stuck in analysis paralysis. You trust yourself, knowing that your choices are in sync with your higher purpose and values. All that time you spend second guessing yourself is just eliminated.

        3. You feel more connected

Whether it’s to your work, relationships, or personal goals, living in alignment helps you feel deeply connected to everything you do. This connection fuels your passion and brings a sense of fulfillment.

        4. You attract opportunities

When you’re living in alignment, you naturally attract people, experiences, and opportunities that are meant for you. It’s like the universe starts aligning with you, making things fall into place with less effort.

        5. You thrive in your own power

Being in alignment isn’t about perfection; it’s about living authentically and embracing who you truly are. You stop playing small, step into your power, and start living a life that’s expansive, joyful, and truly yours.

The best part? Living in alignment is a daily practice. The more you tune into yourself and make small adjustments, the more you’ll notice everything starts to click. You become unstoppable.

6 Simple Steps to Realign Yourself

When life feels off or you’re having a bad day (it happens to all of us, more than most of us care to admit) the good news is that it’s totally fixable.

Having one bad day doesn't mean you have to start over from square one. Think of it more like saving currency in a bank. Ideally, you have enough saved up that you can easily start again.

Here are a few simple steps you can take to get back on track:

        1. Shake off the Stuck Energy

When you feel meh, what’s your go-to for a reset? Ideally it’s something that moves your body, could be exercise, running, yoga, HIIT class, dancing. It could also be more mindful like breathwork (Wim Hof has the most accessible, entry level options I've tried), self-pleasure, sound bath and yin yoga class. Find something that works for you, that gets you out of your head and into your body.

        2. Pause and Tune In

Then check in with how you're feeling. How do you do this best? Is it meditation, journaling, or drawing? Are you tense, stressed, or drained? Get curious about what’s going on inside—your body is always sending signals when things are out of balance. Sometimes just acknowledging how you feel is the first step to realigning. Name it. Own it. Allow it.

        3. Revisit Your Why

What’s your big picture? Your purpose? When you’re out of alignment, it’s easy to lose sight of why you’re doing what you do. Take a moment to reconnect with your “why” and remind yourself of the bigger vision for your life. This helps you realign with what truly matters. If you don’t know the answer to this, take the time to dig deeply into it.

        4. Let Go of What’s Not Serving You

Sometimes, living out of alignment happens because you’re holding onto things that no longer serve you—whether it’s a mindset, a relationship, or a routine. Ask yourself, “What am I ready to release?” Releasing limiting beliefs makes room for what’s meant to align with you.

        5. Prioritize Self-Care

When you're out of alignment, it’s a sign that your mind, body, or spirit needs some TLC. Schedule regular “me time” to do what makes you feel good, whether it’s a yoga class, a long walk in nature, or binge-watching your favorite show guilt-free. When you take care of yourself, you’re better equipped to handle whatever life throws your way.

        6. Practice Mindfulness

Engage in practices that ground you, like meditation or deep breathing exercises. Being present helps you connect with your feelings and thoughts, making it easier to identify what’s misaligned in your life. Plus, mindfulness can significantly reduce stress!

        7. Take Inspired Action

Start small! Choose one area of your life to focus on and take one step, no matter how tiny. This could be updating your resume for a job you really want, reaching out to an old friend, or starting that project you’ve been putting off. Taking action, even in small doses, creates momentum and gets you closer to your goals.

How To Maintain Alignment in Everyday Life?

Now that you’ve taken steps to realign, how do you keep that sense of flow and alignment going, even when life throws challenges your way?

It’s all about building habits that help you stay connected to your true self.

        1. Morning Check-In

Start your day with intention. Take a few minutes in the morning to ask yourself: How do I want to feel today? What can I do to stay aligned with my goals and values? This simple practice sets the tone for the day and keeps you focused on what matters most.

        2. Reflect and Realign at Night

Before bed, take time to reflect on your day. What went well? What didn’t? What small adjustments can you make tomorrow to feel more aligned? By building in this reflection, you’ll get better at recognizing when you’re drifting and quickly course-correcting.

        3. Create Boundaries

High-performance women like you often take on a lot, but staying aligned means knowing when to say no. Protect your energy by setting boundaries that prioritize your well-being and your goals. Remember, your time and energy are your most valuable resources!

        4. Surround Yourself with Support

High-performing women often feel like they have to do it all alone, but that’s a surefire way to get out of alignment. Surround yourself with people who lift you up, keep you accountable, and remind you of your purpose when you start to doubt yourself. Maybe it’s a networking group or a women's circle. Find something that fills your cup.

        5. Practice Gratitude

Focusing on what’s working and what you’re grateful for brings more of that good energy into your life. It shifts your mindset toward abundance and helps you feel more connected to your journey. Try writing down a few things you're thankful for each day—it’s a powerful alignment tool. This is one of Oprah’s most powerful tools.

        6. Celebrate Small Wins

It’s easy to focus on what’s not working, but living in alignment also means celebrating the things that are going well. Acknowledge your progress, no matter how small, and let those wins fuel your momentum. It’s all about staying in the energy of growth and possibility.

        7. Stay Open to Change

Living in alignment isn’t static—what feels right today might evolve over time. Stay open to shifting and adapting as your goals, passions, and priorities change. Being flexible with your alignment allows you to grow without resistance.

The more you commit to these practices, the easier it becomes to stay aligned, grounded, and in flow—no matter what life throws at you. Keep trusting yourself and your journey, and watch how alignment leads to more ease, joy, and fulfillment.

You’re not alone on this path. Let’s lift each other up and shine together, because when we live in alignment, we become unstoppable!

If you’re ready to dive deeper into this journey of alignment, I’m here for you—let’s connect and make magic happen! 💖

          The Alchemy of Love

It all begins with an idea.

Reflecting on Mothers Day really gave me time to focus on my girls and my why in life. As I was looking through quotes to share with my girls, I found this one and it truly spoke to me.

I recall sitting in the hospital room after welcoming my first daughter into the world, and realizing that the love I felt for this tiny, beautiful being was different than any other love I had ever felt. In that moment, I knew that I would literally, happily die to protect her.

As she grew, and I saw the world through her eyes, I realized I couldn't let the world remain the same and teach her how to operate inside of it. That so much that didn't work for me, shouldn’t work for her. And in that moment, and with each daughter born after her (I’m blessed with three incredible humans who call me Mom) that I promised I would heal myself, so that I could be the best mother ever to her.

And that sent me on a 15 year journey back to myself. And lord, was it rocky. I have made more mistakes than I care to admit. But amid the thorns, there were roses. The blessings were abundant, every one a beacon of hope that shimmered against the darkness of my struggles.

The sum of these fifteen years, this tumultuous journey of transformation, is an offering I've come to call "The Alchemy of Love". A heroic quest of the soul, a journey back to the source of my being, guided by the beacon of love.

Throughout this voyage, I have been graced with a tribe of unwavering allies - treasured friends and a supportive partner who have raised their hands high, offering their support to bring this vision to life. Together, we have ignited a flame of transformation and evolution that continues to illuminate our collective path. After all, as Ram Dass says, we'll all walking each other home.

How I Reclaimed Motherhood & My Female Power

It all begins with an idea.

          Updated: Feb 4, 2021

          Published: May 4, 2017

About four years ago, a friend asked me a basic question. He asked me what my dreams were for my future. I couldn’t answer the question. I had no idea how to even start to answer the question.

At the time, I was in a very lonely marriage. I was working full time. I was a mother of three young kids - one almost 1-year-old, a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old. My then husband (now ex) and I had a busy life with lots of people in it. We spent a lot of socializing with friends at events. We spent weekends by the neighborhood pool, drinking beers while the our girls swam and played with friends in the California sunshine.

But my ex and I didn’t have shared dreams and goals for our lives. We really let life happen to us. We weren’t living with a vision for our future, nor were we working toward anything specific. We were adrift, in our shared lives, as well as in our marriage. Reacting to things as they happened to us, often times falling into victim roles.

So the question about what my dreams were for my future came as a wake up call. I realized that along the way, I had lost track of who I was, what I wanted for my life. I was living my kids’ life, and my husband’s life.

But worse than that, I realized that I was living my life according to a set of parameters that I didn’t agree to. It’s a scary moment to realize that you’ve entirely lost yourself in someone else.

At some point in the past 20 years, I had lost track of my own power, my own sense of self and my own truth.

Recently, years past the day I walked out of my marriage, I was talking to a friend/mentor/spirit guide. We were discussing how I’ve been feeling an unavoidable tug to learn more about spirituality and how that plays into this new life I’ve created for myself and my girls. She said it seems that I’m really starting to step into my own power.

I didn’t discuss my reaction with her, but I was confused. I wasn’t totally sure what she meant by that statement. I was also a bit insulted. I thought of the powerful women I know at work - they’re tough, difficult, fiercely focused women. And the powerful women in politics - not really people I identify with or have ambitions to become.

Then last night, I had a conversation with friends, four women, all moms, over wine. One of the women said she’s recently been feeling really guilty about the fact that she’s been choosing to work out at night after work a couple of times a week. Rather than go straight home every night to make her 13 and 11 year old boys dinner, she’s making the choice to do something for herself and she’s really struggling with it.

Intellectually, she knows it's the right thing to do for herself, and yet she’s been taught to believe that she should be at home, taking care of her two more than capable boys. The interesting thing is that she didn’t expect her husband to pick up the slack in this department, that wasn’t even the conversation.

This is a call to action for women, mothers, daughters to practice self care. To figure out the things that we love to do and to make the choice to do them, often. It is really good for our partners and our kids, when we take the time to explore what we need in life. We need to drop the “Mommy Wars”. We attack ourselves plenty without other mom’s jumping in. Females have true power - we can, whether we chose to or not, create life. It’s an everyday miracle that we all take for granted, but it truly is a miracle.

Just because we do, lovingly, thoughtfully, allow a baby thrive inside us and challenge our resources for over nine months, does not mean that our thoughts and feelings and choices are less important than anyone else's. We might make the choice to stay up nights, tending to every single need of these tiny beings that wouldn't survive without us. And while it is entirely natural to lose ourselves in those roles, we shouldn’t.

I believe that most women fear our personal power. Many of us are taught that power is a masculine word and nice girls shouldn’t want to be powerful. Nice girls should listen to their parents, nice girls should take care of themselves, find a man to marry, a job that allows them to be home for their families. Nice girls don’t speak out and challenge people or religions or societal rules. Nice girls make sure everyone else feels good, nice girls are people pleasers.

Walking in my power means feeling all my emotions and not being afraid of them. It means knowing that we as humans feel emotions for a very real purpose - they guide us to our true selves. We shouldn’t be emotional chaos - that takes other people out of their own power. But the other end of that spectrum, the ice princess, isn’t healthy either.

We have to be mindful of how we live our lives and the impact it has on those around us. But we also shouldn't be afraid of our emotions. They are the source of our power. The small tug toward our passions should guide us, the twin feelings of excitement and trepidation indicates a powerful pull. We are done being silenced. So tell dad he’s on kid duty tonight and get out there and explore. As the questions you’ve been dying to ask, take a new class. Find your voice, you passion, and your power.

          Help Me Kill My Ego

It all begins with an idea.

Recently a friend asked me to help him kill his ego. He’s an incredibly thoughtful, highly intelligent man and is interested in making himself a better human. He’s also aware that there are aspects of his personality that hold him back from living the life he desires, including finding his true love, that deep soul connection he yearns for. The conversation moved on before we could talk more about his request, though I’m sure we’ll find our way back to it.

What I want to say to him is that killing off parts of ourselves would leave us amputated. You see, as spiritual beings we were once whole, complete and perfect.

When we arrived on this Earth, we are still perfect, yet we started to experience moments and situations that felt less than perfect, that were meant to teach us lessons. Some believe that our souls agreed to learn these lessons in this lifetime. Part of what develops when we become human, the voice that tells us we are less than perfect, is our ego.

In certain circles, the ego is demonized as a limited aspect of humanity, the insatiable drive for more and more, regardless of impact to self of others. The ego is a valuable tool that helps us learn, but it’s complicated. Its primary purpose is to keep us safe.

We can’t kill off the ego, or we may lose the lesson. The more rewarding, though far more challenging path then, is to learn to heal ourselves by integrating the pain, the hurt, and the fear. This includes honoring what our ego is drawing our attention to.

I experienced my ego in a surprisingly powerful way during a guided meditation workshop at my favorite yoga studio. The workshop was intended to open and clear stuck energy in each of my seven primary chakras.

Chakras are swirling pools of energy located along the spine. The seven chakras are focal points in the energetic and subtle body used in a variety of meditation practices. There are a number of ways you can anoint or clear the chakras, and the process focuses on freeing any and all bound or stuck creative life energy. This is energy that is not serving us to create what we desire in life. At the time, I was just learning about this concept and had never before tried to clear my chakras. Allowing someone else to walk you through this process also requires a lot of trust. Trusting and letting go are new skills for me, as I’m a recovering control freak.

When I arrived for this workshop, which was lead by a couple of my yoga teachers in my community, I was apprehensive. The workshop was in the yoga room, a sweet space in a converted garage. Years before the traditional garage door had been replaced by a glass garage door, that was often times opened to allow the air from the outdoors to flow freely through the space.

European style curtains flowing softly at the edge of the room, moving with the gentle breeze. The room was packed – each mat was edge to edge and besides the 3 teachers who were leading the class, there were 5 or 6 additional teachers. Each yoga teacher had essential oils for us to place on our bodies, intended for each chakra so that beyond the meditation and the blessing, we could anoint ourselves with oils as we move through the energy pools.

It was in this sweet space that I found myself lying on my mat, eyes closed, breathing deeply. Each student, all 30 of us, were lying on our backs, the lights were dim, and a soothing song was playing. The yogi I knew and trust were guiding us through this deeply powerful meditation.

We worked through the chakras, by drawing our attention to each space and saying a prayer of clearing and releasing energetic blocks in our bodies representing experiences and emotions that were holding us back from living our truest most authentic lives.

As we moved through the energy centers, I could feel the releasing and movement of energy as I laid completely still. And in this space, I had a moment of complete doubt and panic. My ego kicked in and in my mind, I started to rehash all the reasons that what I was participating in was completely lunacy.

Previously, I had experienced powerful changes in my life through this work before and yet, here came this voice, filled with doubt and fear, distracting me. My instinct was to get up and run out of the room, I was so overwhelmed with confusion and emotion.

Yet, instead of running out of the room, I imagined that my ego was an alligator in the back of my skull. Rather than starting a mental battle, I imagined sending this beast of a monster (think an alligator that lived during the era of dinosaurs) with an infinite amount of love. I said, “Thank you for all the work you’ve done my entire life to keep me safe. I truly value you and now you can rest. I have this and I know my path”.

I imagined this creature responding to this love by shrinking from a full-grown alligator-monster to a tiny little lizard. And I imagined the tiny lizard crawling down my right arm to my wrist and curling up there, at peace.

According to Eckhart Tolle (the authority on the matter, in my opinion), “The beginning of freedom is the realization that you are not “the thinker.” The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes activated. You then begin to realize that there is a vast realm of intelligence beyond thought, that thought is only a tiny aspect of that intelligence.

You also realize that all the things that truly matter – beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace – arise from beyond the mind. You begin to awaken.”

We have a small but significant voice in our heads that is intended to keep us safe. This voice tells us not to do things like run into traffic or eat poison mushrooms. It has helped us to survive and it still serves a purpose in our world, especially for young children, who haven’t developed rational thought.

However, the ego can also keep us small and separate from others. It can keep us safe in our house, watching Netflix, insulated from real human experience that can be both enriching and developmental.

It’s the voice that tells us the world is too big and scary for our dreams. That the dream career will never make us enough money to afford to live. It’s the voice that tells us that quitting our job and following our passions are incredibly stupid choices and that we’ll end up homeless on the streets. Depending on how active one’s imagination is, hundreds of other stories of woe and loss can arise.

Imagine you’re trying to decide where to eat lunch. You have the choice between two restaurants. One, you’ve been going to for years, and you know everything on the menu. You like it; it’s the safe choice.

The other option is a brand new, exotic place right next to the first. It’s so new that there aren’t yet any online reviews. No one you know has been there. They serve a type of cuisine you’ve always wanted to try, but haven’t. Your ego could serve up a number of reasons why trying the new place is a bad choice: What if you get food poisoning? What if the food is terrible and you can’t eat any of it? What if, what if, what if?

If you let that doubt drive your choice, you’ll probably end up eating what you’ve always eaten and possibly missing out on the best meal of your life At the least, you’ll pass up the opportunity for a new adventure.

The safe, known path versus the unknown, the road less traveled: the latter is risky, but choosing it could change your life.

We encounter our egos hundreds of times throughout the day. The more aware we are of this voice in your head, the easier it is to recognize when we’re hearing it. There are times when it’s a good choice to listen to it, but recognizing that the fear in the voice exists simply because the path ahead looks unfamiliar, and going down that path anyway, is the challenge of mankind.

There are many stories of humans overcoming great obstacles in order to achieve amazing things, so we know it’s possible. The question becomes: do we want our life to be safe and normal (and for many of us the answer is “hell yes”, and that’s ok), or do we want to experience life and to live according to our soul’s desire, our calling, and as our most authentic self?

So, what I would tell my friend is this: if we allow the fear and negative voices (our own and those of others) to stop us from living the life we love, we will always be small and live in fear.

But, if we can be powerful enough to give gratitude to that voice, and be grateful for the gifts of safety we’ve received so far. We can send love to all the parts of ourselfs, and integrate the lessons learned, including this one.

If we can remember to do this daily, eventually, one day we can realize that we’ve learned to become free from the influence of fear and that we’re able to live our truest, most authentic lives.

What the True Practice of Teaching Yoga Can Teach Us All

It all begins with an idea.

Written and published first on April 18, 2017

It is hard to believe that six months ago, I only practiced yoga.

I adored my practice and I took classes three to four times a week. My yoga practice helped me survive some very dark times. It forced me to breathe through all the pain. Pain so dark and all encompassing I didn’t want to remember to breathe. Times when my mind wanted to let go.

Many things in my life helped me through this time, my family and friends most of all. But yoga created a shift that started to open me up to infinite possibilities.

In March, when the darkness started to release, I found myself at a cross-roads. I needed to stop letting life happen to me and re-engage, my yoga practice was there to hold up the mirror to let me really see myself. It helped me find my path. I made the choice to go deeper emotionally, physically and spiritually. I signed up to take a 200-hour Yoga Teacher training course.

In April, I started my yoga teacher training. And shit got real.

Twenty-two beautiful humans showed up to learn how to become yoga teachers that very first Friday night in April. Four teachers showed up. Most of the students weren't entirely sure what we had really signed up to do.

That evening in April, while we waited together to take our first yoga class, we were unaware that we formed a powerful community. We stood around and nervously made eye contact with each other. Small smiles and small talk got us through the first 15 minutes before our class started. And then we flowed together, we moved together.

Our yoga practice was awkward and far from light on our toes. When we jumped to the front of the mat, it sounded like a small herd of elephants.

You could same the same about our interactions with each other, awkward and unsure. But our teachers had, unbeknownst to us, created a community and a safe space where we could truly explore the peaks, valleys and “the edge” in our bodies, but more importantly in ourselves, in our lives. They told us that first night, this is the quietest you will ever be together. They were so right.

Week two (and four days of class into the program), I called my friend who had completed the same Teacher Training program years ago, and said; “What the hell have I signed myself up for? I just wanted the hot yoga body?” She laughed into the phone and said: “You thought it was just yoga, tell me what happened?”

I was encountering bits and pieces of myself I didn’t know existed. We did a chakra opening meditation and practice and it’s not an exaggeration to say that I heard the voice of God.

I had the first of many moments since then, where I realized there is so much more to this thing we call life. We get so bogged down as humans in the details - who has the best car, house, vacation.

While it is amazing to be able to reward ourselves with creature comforts, I do think there a real shift happens where we realize that real life experiences are far more important to our growth. The fancy car gets you a fancy car, while a trip to an exotic world can teach you who you are when things get tough, how you deal with cultures that aren’t the same as your own, or just slow you down and allow you to see all the natural beauty in this world.

There is so much to be learned from facing your challenges and struggles face on. For most of my life, I’ve been really good at boxing up all the garbage and putting it on nice tidy shelves in my mind. I would tell myself that I’m FAR too busy to deal with that crap today. Maybe I’ll deal with it tomorrow. Maybe I’ll deal with it tomorrow, became maybe I’ll deal with it next month and next year, never.

I found that dealing with the tough stuff, moving through the garbage it is the only way to grow as a human. It builds grace and strength. And one hell of a backbone.

I’ve also learned that it’s not as bad as you fear it will be. There is always a way if you’re honest with yourself and committed to do the hard work.

People and moments in your life for a reason. Rather than anger at encountering them, ask yourself why? Try to see the purpose in the challenge. The reason might become clear that moment or years from now. Either way, know that those who are willing or able to share parts of life (yours or theirs) are to be treasured.

I’ve learned that most of the time, it’s not all about you. So stop comparing yourself to others. You have no idea what their lives are really like, even if they appear “Facebook Perfect”. In fact, the more “Facebook Perfect” they are, the more likely there is something they’re struggling through.

I’ve also learned that there is always time and reason for compassion. Compassion for yourself, for others, for the world.

And I’ve learned that I’ll always be a student, even though I am a yoga teacher now. I have officially taught 20 classes (for money).

I have regulars who, when I tell them I’ll be out of town next Sunday, get bummed. They show up for me just as much as I show up for them. They trust me to move them through pose after pose. They’re learning crow pose – they’re really getting it. The first week we worked on crow, only a couple tried it. I’m pretty sure they thought I was crazy.

They’re learning, like I did, that the hardest part is trusting in your ability and letting go. Giving into to this life and committing to be present for whatever life throws at you.

And the most amazing part for me – at the end of all this effort, my class lays in savasana and trusts me to hold space and time for them. Nothing compares to the experience when 20 humans place their trust in me and are willing to lie in corpse pose while I hold their hearts in mine.

I am beyond grateful that life has brought me to this point.
